Basil Cook, 83, of 5200 Werth Rd., Alpena went to be with his Heavenly Father, Sunday August 17, 2008 at Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit.

Born April 25, 1925 in Cleveland, Virginia to the late Noah and Louise (Barton) Cook and married Doris Godfrey on July 30, 1944. Basil served in the US Navy during W.W.II, later working at Abitibi as a repairman retiring in 1987. Basil raised honey bees and sold the honey for several years.
Mr. Cook was a member of First United Methodist Church of Alpena, its mens club, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years Doris, 2 sons Kenneth and wife Mary of Alpena, Barry and wife RoseAnne of Troy; 1 daughter Linda Bekes of Sterling Heights; 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 brothers Millard and Edward both of Virginia; 2 sister Rachel Ball and Effie Karschner both of Maryland, and several special nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cook was preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters.
Friends may visit on Friday at the Bannan Funeral Home from 2-8 p.m. and on Saturday at the First United Methodist Church of Alpena from 10 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Steve Euper officiating. Cremation has taken place.
