Thomas J. Childers, 84, formerly of Hillman, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2008, at Shelby Nursing Center in Shelby Twp.

Born in Franklin, North Carolina on April 6, 1924 to Fred and Pearl (Burnette) Childers and married the former Lenor Knowles. Mr. Childers served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Silver Star Medal. Afterwards, he was employed by G.M. and the U.A.W.

Mr. Childers was a member of the V.F.W. Hillman Post 2356.

Surviving are his daughter, Agatha (James) Moore of Addison; son, Tom (Lisa) of Sterling Heights; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ralph, Ken, and Paul of North Carolina; and a sister, Atha Joyce Gentry of North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Grady and William.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 11, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bannan Funeral Home in Hillman with Rev. Michael Bell officiating. Military honors will be accorded him at the cemetery.
