Robert E. Ewing, 89, of 3483 Piper Road, Alpena, passed away on Friday, November 13, 2009, at Tendercare/Alpena.

Robert was born on April 27, 1920 in Alpena to the late John and Matilda (Prieur) Ewing and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married the former Gladys Jaskolski on September 27, 1947. Mr. Ewing had been employed as a repairman at Huron Portland Cement Company for 37 years; he retired in 1982. Bob enjoyed playing country western music on his violin, working his land and his garden.

He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and VFW Post 2496.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys; 2 children, Diane and Mark Nowakowski, John R. Ewing; 7 granddaughters; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marie Gladys Ewing; daughter-in-law, Laurie Lynn (Krebs); 3 brothers, Clarence, Lloyd, Thomas; and a sister, Ruth Wodkowski.

Cremation has taken place. Friends and family may gather at the Bannan Funeral Home on Thursday from 10 until time of memorial service at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. James Kendziorski officiating. Full military honors will be accorded him by VFW Post 2496.
