Gertrude Elowsky, 90, formerly of Leer, passed away at Jamieson Nursing Home on Thursday, April 30, 2009.

 
Gertrude was born in Metz on July 8, 1918 to the late Agnus and Mary (Wisniewski) Burzych, and  married Theodore Elowsky on July 26, 1937.  He preceded her in death on November 28, 1991. 
 
Mrs. Elowsky was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Metz and  Leer Lutheran Church.  She was the church organist and a Sunday School teacher for the churches for many years.  Gertrude and her husband also owned a dairy farm.
 
Surviving are 3 children, Darlene (Tom) Stone of Harrisville, Roger (Cindy) of Brighton, Terry (Darlene) of DeWitt; 8 grandchildren, Reta Engel, Lee Ann Campbell, Theodore Stone, Michael (Laverna) Elowsky, Tyra (Kurt) Schmitter, Angela Elowsky, James (Cathy) Elowsky, Denise (Thomas) Magsig; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Beatrice (Gerald) Grambau of Metz; 2 sisters-in-law, Hildegard Elowsky, June Burzych; a brother-in-law, Carl Hein; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were 4 brothers and 5 sisters.

 
Visitation for family and friends will be held at the Bannan Funeral Home in Alpena on Saturday from 2-8 p.m. and will continue Sunday at Leer Lutheran Church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Richard Clapp officiating.
 
Interment:  Leer Cemetery
