Dorothy Mae Blemke,79, of 5070 US 23 North, Alpena, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Tendercare - Alpena.

Dorothy Mae Matzke was born in Alpena on May 18, 1930 to the late William and Lillian (Ellsworth) Matzke and married Louis Blemke on July 30, 1949. She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alpena, Girl Scouts of America, TOPS Club 1349 and VFW Post 2496 Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband of 60 years: Louis; 2 daughters: Cathy and husband Chris Murtha of Denver, Colorado, Karen and husband Roy Wekwert of Alpena; 4 grandchildren: Kale Dennis, Brianna Bennitt, Vanessa Wekwert, Malary Wekwert; 2 great grandchildren: Taylor Bennitt and Cayden Ruehle.

Mrs. Blemke was preceded in death by 4 sisters and 1 brother: Flora Behnke, Ruth Bahling, Howard Matzke, Doris Kindt and Margaret Krajnik.

Mrs. Blemke is at the Bannan Funeral Home where friends may call on Monday from 2-8 p.m., with a VFW Post 2496 Auxiliary Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. with Reverend Paul Owens officiating.

Interment: Pilgrims Rest Cemetery

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Michigan or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
